Why Men Choose Humanitas for a Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that offers a permanent solution to your contraceptive needs. It's a safe and effective way to prevent sperm from reaching your semen, ensuring you can enjoy a worry-free sex life without the risk of unplanned pregnancies.

At Humanitas Healthcare Services, our experienced team, led by Medical Director Dr. Albert Benjamin (FRCS), is dedicated to providing exceptional care and expertise throughout your vasectomy journey.

We understand that this is a significant decision, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

The Procedure.

A Simple Step Towards a Worry-Free Future

What Happens in a Vasectomy?

Under local anaesthetic, a small incision is made in the scrotum to access the vas deferens. The vas deferens are then cut, sealed, or blocked to prevent sperm from reaching the semen.

How Will I Feel After a Vasectomy?

You may experience mild soreness, swelling, or bruising for a few days after the procedure. Most men can return to work and most activities within a day or two. It's important to avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for a week or so.

Who is Suitable for a Vasectomy?

Men who are certain they do not want any more children (or any children at all). A vasectomy is also suitable for couples who have completed their family and are seeking a permanent form of birth control.

It's important to discuss the decision with your partner and consider all options carefully before proceeding.

The Life-Changing Benefits of Vasectomy

A vasectomy doesn't just offer effective contraception—it opens the door to a life with less worry and more enjoyment.

Uninterrupted Intimacy

Avoid interruptions and concerns about unplanned pregnancies. Enjoy spontaneous and worry-free intimacy with your partner.

No Hormonal Side Effects

Unlike female contraceptives, a vasectomy doesn't involve any hormonal changes, ensuring your natural balance and well-being remain intact.

Permanent Peace of Mind

Once cleared by your doctor, a vasectomy provides a permanent solution, eliminating the need for ongoing birth control methods.

Unchanged Sexual Experience

Your sex drive, sensation, and ability to achieve an erection remain unaffected. You'll continue to enjoy a fulfilling sex life.

Understanding the Risks and Making an Informed Decision

While vasectomies are generally safe and effective, it's crucial to be aware of potential risks before making your decision.

  • Temporary Sperm Presence
After the procedure, some sperm may remain in the upper part of the vas deferens. You'll need to use alternative contraception until follow-up tests confirm your semen is sperm-free.

  • No Protection Against STIs

A vasectomy does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Condoms remain essential for safe sex, especially with new partners.

  • Rare Complications

Although uncommon, complications like infection, bleeding, or chronic pain can occur.

  • Potential for Failure

While rare, vasectomies can fail in a small percentage of cases, leading to the possibility of unintended pregnancy.

Open communication and informed consent are key.

We encourage you to discuss any concerns with our specialists during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the £550 vasectomy fee all-inclusive?

Yes, the £550 fee covers everything—both the consultation, the procedure and one post-vasectomy semen analysis. There are no hidden fees or extra charges. There is no additional VAT. You can feel confident that this is the total cost for your vasectomy, with no surprises later on.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure is usually completed in around 30 minutes. However, we advise patients to expect to be with us for about an hour.

Are there any risks?

It’s a very safe procedure, and the risk of complications is very low, affecting approximately 1 percent of patients. There is a small risk of bleeding, minor infection or chronic discomfort. The discomfort generally gets better with time and conservative measures. The risk of pregnancy after vasectomy is about 1 in 2,000, as a man never stops making sperm and it’s possible for sperm to make their way across the vasectomy site. But that is the lowest risk of failure of all forms of birth control.

What is the recovery period like?

Most men will experience minor discomfort for a few days, so it's recommended to wear well supportive underwear for 7 days and take a painkillers as required to help ease discomfort. Most men take a couple of days off work to rest, or longer if their job is physical. Heavy lifting and contact sports should be avoided for a couple of weeks.

How do you know if the procedure was successful?

Patients will have a sperm test after 16 weeks and will be notified of the results. Until confirmation of a clear test result you must use effective contraception. Most men have no sperm in their semen at 16 weeks but the time taken does vary and another test will be booked if necessary.

Is ejaculation still possible?

Yes. A vasectomy simply stops sperm entering your ejaculate and acts as a male contraceptive. Ejaculation will appear just the same as normal. Regarding sexual performance, vasectomy has no negative effects - erection and male hormone levels remain the same.

Is reversal possible?

Vasectomy reversal is possible but success is not guaranteed and depends largely on how long ago it was done. The decision to opt for a vasectomy remains a highly personal one in which the potential risks and benefits must be considered, including the possibility that you may change your mind, so it is much better to consider it as a permanent procedure. Relevant to this, we advise patients that we could make arrangements to save their sperm before the procedure if they so wish.
